Upcoming meetings on the Woodridge Library, Langdon Park, Chuck Brown Amphitheater.

There are four (4! FOUR!) meetings coming up in the next 10 days that you may want to take note of. They cover the new Woodridge Library, more permits for events in Langdon Park this summer, a chance for the community to gather to discuss the proposed Chuck Brown Park Amphitheater and the next scheduled meeting with the District government on that same amphitheater.

Details are below, I hope you’ll join me for one of these upcoming meetings:

Quick Woodridge Library Update

There was a great community update on the new Woodridge Library on Monday, January 7.

A rendering of the inside of the new Woodridge Library. Click the photo to be taken to the full presentation of renderings

You can view the slides of the presentation at the site DCPL put up to track the library rebuild. I also encourage you to keep checking back at http://woodridgedclibrary.wordpress.com, where DCPL has been putting updates on the library.

The main points:

  • After being unable to secure suitable space on Rhode Island Avenue, DCPL will be placing a temporary building at the corner of 18th and Douglass NE (across 18th from the Home for Aging) to act as the temporary library.
  • DCPL should be moving into the temporary building this spring/summer
  • Demolition and construction on the new library should start this spring/summer.
  • DCPL and DDOT are seeking permission to close off Hamlin directly in front of the library to create a pedestrian plaza (not cutting off access to Hamlin, which would still be available directly in front of the chicken shop)

Besides the great images at the links above, that’s about it for the update. You can always email me (nolan@ancnolan.com) if you’ve got further questions or concerns.

(note: I actually posted this on January 15, but I pre-dated it to January 9 to keep these blog posts in chronological order with the events)
